METAVEL , the artistic name of Renée Koppel, is a calligrapher and miniaturist. Born in Algeria and immigrated to Israel in 1960., she since lives and works in Tel-Aviv.
After some years of abstract style paintings, she began illustrating biblical themes using textual calligraphy, kabbalah symbolism and miniature paintings, using solely watercolor, while applying special, personal techniques.
Her illuminated manuscripts have been published as printed editions and have been exhibited in many cities around the world, including Paris, Vienna, Frankfurt, Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem.
In 2017 she received Honoris Causa from Bern university in Switzerland as an esteem for her work.
